There is a pattern hidden in the Madurai column that is worth spelling out, because it tells you exactly when to consolidate. Above three kilograms, the Standard tier is flat at about ₹173 a kilogram — ₹864 for five kilos, ₹1,729 for ten, ₹8,644 for fifty. The rate per kilo does not fall as the box gets heavier. What you are really paying extra for is the first kilogram, which costs ₹236 on its own.
So the money on this lane is saved by sending fewer consignments, not bigger ones. Two separate 5 kg parcels cost ₹1,728; one 10 kg parcel costs ₹1,729 — effectively identical, which means splitting a shipment gains you nothing but gives you two dockets to chase. Where consolidation genuinely pays is at the bottom of the card, where several one-kilo bookings each carry that opening charge.
The road tier follows the same flat shape at a lower level: roughly ₹104 a kilogram above the three kilogram floor — ₹519 for five kilos, ₹1,037 for ten. That is around 40% off the air rate for one extra day, since road runs 3–4 days against Standard’s 2–3. Below 3 kg it charges ₹311 regardless, which is more than Standard’s ₹236, so light boxes stay on the air tier.
Premium runs at two days and ₹576 for the first kilogram. On a route this short it is a document service in practice — the ₹403 express envelope rate makes sense before a deadline; the parcel column rarely does.
