Hong Kong is a separate customs territory from mainland China and, for our purposes, a much simpler one — it is a free port that charges no general import duty and no VAT or sales tax. We book it through DTDC's international network and quote it per consignment; we hold no international rate card and will not put a per-kilo figure on this page.
Hong Kong levies no general customs tariff on imports and has no VAT, GST or sales tax. For an ordinary parcel of documents, clothing or gifts, that removes the single biggest variable that complicates most international shipments: there is normally nothing for the recipient to pay on arrival.
The exception is a short and stable list of dutiable commodities — liquor, tobacco, hydrocarbon oil and methyl alcohol. None of them is something we would book out of Bangalore in any case: alcohol is a liquid and liquids are prohibited on every route we handle, and the rest are hazardous.
No duty does not mean no declaration. Hong Kong customs still inspects, and the prohibitions that matter are about the goods themselves rather than their value — ivory and other wildlife products covered by CITES, counterfeit and pirated goods, weapons, and controlled drugs. Hong Kong takes intellectual-property enforcement seriously; a box of replica branded items is a genuinely bad idea there.
Because Hong Kong is administered separately, a shipment addressed to Hong Kong is booked, documented and quoted on its own and never as an add-on to a mainland China consignment. If you are sending to both, they are two shipments with two air waybills. Macau is likewise separate again.
Address it properly: Hong Kong uses no postcode, so the district, building name, floor and flat number do the work, and a working local phone number for the recipient matters more than usual.
