Aligarh is billed on the Uttar Pradesh sheet, zone Z4, service DNG. Air puts a parcel there in 3–4 days; the road tier takes 6–7. Two things come up on nearly every booking to this town: what a set of papers costs, and whether a small parcel should go by road. The answers are below.

These are the DTDC rates for Uttar Pradesh (zone Z4) — the same card applies across the state. Billed weight is the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ 5000). Surface and heavier air slabs carry a 3 kg minimum. Full rate card and how billing works →

Start with paper, because a university town generates a lot of it. Transcripts, admission files, attested copies, signed agreements — all of them move on the document card, and the Uttar Pradesh card runs two document lines. The ordinary one is what most senders want: ₹242 covers 500 g, ₹415 takes it to a kilogram, and heavier files run ₹761 and ₹1,106. The express line covers the same four weights from ₹496 to ₹2,080 and shaves a day off. Ask for the ordinary line unless the file is chasing a date.

Parcels are the other half of this lane. A kilogram by air is ₹415 and lands in 3–4 days; three kilograms is ₹830. The express parcel column shortens that to 3 days at ₹813 for the first kilogram, which is close to double for a saving of a day or less. It is worth it when a deadline is genuinely tight and hard to justify otherwise.

The road column is where people go wrong. It looks cheap, and it is — but only once you are past its three-kilogram floor of ₹484. Send one kilogram that way and you pay ₹484 instead of ₹415 and wait 6–7 days instead of three or four. At five kilos the picture inverts: ₹807 on the road against ₹1,383 in the air. At ten it is ₹1,614 against ₹2,593. Hardware, tools and stock in quantity belong in that column; a single packet does not.

Lock and hardware consignments have one advantage worth mentioning. Metal is dense, so the scale weight and the volumetric calculation — length × width × height in centimetres over 5000 — usually agree. It is the light, bulky cartons, the kind students send home at the end of term, where the second figure wins and the bill jumps. Fill the empty space before you seal it.

Common questions on this route

What does an envelope of documents cost?

₹242 up to 500 g and ₹415 up to a kilogram on the ordinary document line. The express line prices the same envelopes at ₹496 and ₹813.

How many days to Aligarh?

Three to four by air, three on express, six to seven by road.

Should a 2 kg parcel go by road to save money?

No. Road billing starts at three kilograms and ₹484, above the ₹415 air rate for a kilo, and it adds three days.

Is this an Aligarh rate or a state rate?

A state rate. It is Uttar Pradesh's Z4 card, which is what DTDC applies to this town.

Can you pick up from the university area?

Pickup is from your Bangalore address, free of charge. Delivery covers the campus and the city on the same card.

What if the box is big but not heavy?

It is billed on volume — L × W × H in centimetres divided by 5000 — whenever that beats the actual weight.

Is there an express option above 25 kg?

No. The express parcel column stops at 25 kg. Heavier consignments go Standard or by road.
