Chennai is the destination we book most often: 59 shipments have gone down this lane on our DTDC account. It is a Z2 destination on the DZB service, the cheapest metro card we hold, and the spread between the three tiers is narrower here than on any long-haul route.
DTDC prices Chennai off its Z2 card, quoted here against pincode 600017 in T. Nagar. This is what our counter reads from — nothing is loaded on top, and the tax is already inside each number.

Rates for Chennai (pincode 600017), DTDC service DZB. Billed weight is the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ 5000). Surface and heavier air slabs carry a 3 kg minimum. Full rate card and how billing works →
Chennai routes on DZB in zone Z2 — the band that covers most of peninsular India. The card charges by zone, not by kilometre, so the 350 km run to Chennai costs exactly what a much longer haul to Kochi or Hyderabad costs.
The useful thing about this lane is how close the tiers sit. Standard lands in 2–3 days; Surface takes 3–4. One day of difference, and above 3 kg the price gap is large: 10 kg is ₹1,037 by Surface against ₹1,729 on Standard. If your parcel is heavy and the recipient is not counting hours, Surface is the obvious pick here — which is not true of most lanes we book.
Under 3 kg the logic reverses completely. Surface bills a 3 kg minimum, so a 1 kg box is charged ₹311 — dearer than the ₹236 Standard wants for the same box, and a day slower. Below 3 kg there is simply no argument for Surface.
Premium costs ₹576 at 1 kg and lands in 2 days, so it buys at most one day over Standard. On a deadline document that day can be worth ₹403 against ₹156. On a parcel it rarely is.
The card covers Chennai city. Suburban Tamil Nadu towns outside the 600xxx series are quoted on their own rows — give us the pincode and we will read the exact figure.

Standard is 2–3 days, Premium is 2 days, and Surface is 3–4 days. The road distance is short but the transit is set by DTDC's Z2 schedule, not by the drive.
Standard, at ₹236. Surface looks like an economy option but its 3 kg minimum makes it ₹311 for the same parcel, so it costs more and takes longer.
From 3 kg. At 3 kg Surface is ₹311 against ₹519, at 10 kg it is ₹1,037 against ₹1,729, and at 50 kg it is ₹5,186 against ₹8,644.
Usually not. Premium is a 2-day commitment and Standard already runs 2–3 days, so you are paying more than double for a day you may not need.
No, and there is no weight below which it stops being free. We come to you with wrap and a box if the parcel needs packing.
On volumetric weight if that is higher: length × breadth × height in cm, divided by 5000. A bulky cushion box can bill well above what the scale shows.
Yes. The AWB is issued on booking day and tracks at dtdc.com/track-your-shipment.
Tell us the weight and we will read the Z2 rate straight off the card. Collection is free, anywhere in Bangalore.
