Himachal Pradesh sits in zone Z5 on our DTDC card, a band above most of north India, and Shimla is priced from it on DNG routing. Air transit is 3–4 days. The road tier reaches the hills in 7–8, the longest surface leg on any of our northern lanes.

What the hill card costs

These are DTDC's rates for Himachal Pradesh, the card Shimla is quoted from. Z5 is a dearer band than the plains and we would rather show you why than round the numbers.

These are the DTDC rates for Himachal Pradesh (zone Z5) — the same card applies across the state. Billed weight is the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ 5000). Surface and heavier air slabs carry a 3 kg minimum. Full rate card and how billing works →

Shimla is a Z5 destination, and that is the first thing to absorb: the first kilo is ₹553, a band above what the northern plains cost on the same card. The zone applies to Himachal Pradesh as a whole rather than to Shimla alone, and it is the zone setting that price, not us.

Two consequences fall out of the Z5 table that do not apply on cheaper lanes.

The first concerns documents. The air docket here is ₹496 for 500 g and ₹813 for a kilo — and ₹496 is less than the ₹553 the parcel table asks for its first kilo. On most routes an envelope costs more than a small box; on Shimla it costs less. If what you are sending is genuinely paper, send it as paper.

The second concerns road freight. Surface is ₹674 up to 3 kg — above the ₹553 air rate at one kilo, so light-and-slow is the worst of both worlds here. Where it earns its keep is in the middle and upper slabs: ₹1,123 against ₹1,843 at 5 kg, ₹2,247 against ₹3,400 at 10 kg, ₹11,234 against ₹16,997 at 50 kg. That is a third off, in exchange for a 7–8 day journey.

Premium is the odd one out and, unusually, defensible at low weights. A kilo is ₹813 against Standard’s ₹553 for a 3 day commitment — a smaller step up than this product usually asks for. By 3 kg it has flipped completely, ₹2,069 against ₹1,106, and there is no case for it at all.

Give us the consignee’s phone number when you book. Shimla addresses on the Ridge and Mall Road are reached on foot, and a working number is what turns a delivery attempt into a delivery.

Questions about the Shimla lane

How many days to Shimla?

Three to four by air on the standard product, three on Premium, and seven to eight on the road tier.

Why does Shimla cost more than a plains city?

Himachal Pradesh is zoned Z5 on the card, a band above most northern destinations. It is the zone doing that, not us.

Is an envelope cheaper than a small parcel here?

Yes — ₹496 for 500 g of documents against ₹553 for a 1 kg parcel. Shimla is one of the few lanes where that is true.

Is the road tier a good idea?

Above five kilos, if seven or eight days is acceptable. At one kilo it is ₹674 against ₹553 by air, so no.

Do you reach Solan, Kufri and Theog?

Yes, on the same Himachal Pradesh card. Send the pincode and we will verify the slab before we book.

Does weather delay things?

The card's transit windows are what we commit to, and we will not promise better than them. Ask us on the day and we will tell you what we are seeing.

What weight will I be charged for?

The greater of the scale reading and L × W × H in cm ÷ 5000. Woollens are bulky, so this matters more than usual.
