OMAN Booked into DTDC's overseas network

Courier from Bangalore to Oman

Muscat, Sohar, Salalah, Nizwa, Sur — we book Oman-bound documents and parcels at the HSR Layout counter and hand them into DTDC's overseas network. There is no price list on this page. International consignments are priced one at a time, once we know where in Oman it is going, what it weighs on the scale and in volume, and what you are actually sending.

Omani customs

How an Oman-bound parcel is assessed

Customs in Oman sits under the Royal Oman Police — the Directorate General of Customs is a police directorate, not a finance department, and shipments are examined with that mindset. Accuracy on the paperwork matters more here than cleverness about value.

Oman introduced VAT in 2021 at 5%, and it is charged on the assessed value of imported goods alongside any duty the tariff line attracts. Both are calculated from what your invoice says, which is why we itemise: each article, how many, what it is genuinely worth. A vague single-line description like “household items” invites the officer to open the carton and make his own valuation, and his number is the one that stands.

On the sender’s side we need standard KYC — Aadhaar or PAN — and your signature on the declaration. On the receiving side, get the recipient’s PO Box, postal code, area and a working Omani mobile number. Street delivery outside central Muscat is inconsistent, so a reachable phone is often what decides whether a parcel is delivered or held.

Medicines are the recurring problem on this route. Personal quantities of ayurvedic preparations generally travel if they are sealed, labelled and accompanied by the prescription; prescription pharmaceuticals may need clearance from Oman’s health authorities and are not something we will book on a hope. Ask us first.

Who sends on this route

What we usually book to Oman

Documents for work and visas

Attested certificates, contracts, powers of attorney and school records travelling to Muscat and the interior. Envelopes are the least troublesome international shipment there is — the description is simple, the value is nil, and there is nothing to revalue.

Parcels to family in Muscat and Salalah

Clothes, sealed dry snacks, books and small household articles to relatives working in Oman. We pack them at the counter and write the invoice line by line, which is the difference between a parcel that walks through clearance and one that sits waiting for an explanation.

Spares and samples for Omani buyers

Engineering spares, trade samples and small equipment from Bengaluru suppliers. These need a commercial invoice with real values and a description a customs officer can classify — we would rather spend ten minutes on that here than have your buyer chase a held shipment in Muscat.

Excess baggage after a visit

Things bought in Bengaluru that will not fit in the airline allowance, collected from the hotel or family home and shipped separately. Same rules apply — nothing liquid, nothing pressurised, and an honest list of what is in the box.

FAQs

Bangalore to Oman — common questions

Why is there no rate table on this page?

Because we hold no international rate card and will not invent one. Domestic prices come from a real DTDC card and are published in full. Oman is quoted per consignment — call with the weight, the dimensions and the contents and you will have a firm number in minutes.

How many days does it take to reach Muscat?

We do not have verified transit data for this route, so we do not print a number. The service you book carries its own commitment and we will tell you what that is at booking rather than guessing on a web page.

Which network carries the shipment?

DTDC's. We are an authorised DTDC booking partner in HSR Layout — the consignment gets a genuine DTDC air waybill and moves through their overseas network.

Can I send ghee or pickle to my family?

No. Liquids, oils and semi-liquids are refused on every route we book. It is not an Oman rule, it is ours, and it applies to ghee, pickle, syrup and perfume alike.

What will my relative pay on arrival?

Whatever Omani customs assesses — 5% VAT and any applicable duty, based on the declared value. We cannot waive it or predict it precisely, and a courier who promises you duty-free delivery is telling you something he cannot control.
