Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao — we book Spain-bound papers, personal parcels and samples at our counter in HSR Layout and hand them into DTDC's international network. You will not see a per-kilo figure anywhere below. We hold no overseas rate card, and the honest thing is to price your consignment after we have seen and weighed it.
Spanish clearance is built around identifying the person receiving the goods. Collect the recipient’s DNI if they are Spanish or their NIE if they are a foreign resident, and send it with the address. The customs department under the Agencia Tributaria expects that identifier on inbound consignments, and its absence is a routine reason for a parcel to stop moving. Getting it from a relative before you book takes a minute; getting it after the shipment is held takes days.
On everything else Spain imports as the Union does. The tariff, the valuation rules and the formalities are common EU law rather than Spanish invention, so the customs treatment of a box into Barcelona mirrors the treatment of the same box into Rotterdam. Spain’s own contribution is the tax: IVA at 21% on imports, with reduced bands including 4% on books. Duty is normally not charged below €150 of goods value, and an occasional non-commercial gift between two private individuals is relieved of duty and IVA up to €45. Since 2021 there has been no VAT-free floor beneath that — declared value is taxable from the first euro.
Then there is the part of Spain that is not, for tax purposes, in the EU. The Canary Islands sit outside the EU VAT territory and levy their own IGIC instead of IVA, with a full import declaration required. Ceuta and Melilla are outside the customs union as well and apply their own IPSI. A parcel to Las Palmas, Santa Cruz de Tenerife or Melilla therefore clears on terms that have nothing to do with a mainland delivery — tell us the destination at booking rather than after.
Spanish addresses carry detail Indian ones do not: street and number, then floor and door (3º B, say), then the five-digit code before the town and province. Give us all of it, with a mobile number.

Apostilled degrees, transcripts, NIE correspondence and employment contracts for people taking up a place or a job in Spain. A document envelope has no value to reassess and no contents to inspect, which makes it the least eventful thing we send abroad.
Clothing, festival gifts, books and sealed dry food to relatives and students in Spain. Send the recipient's DNI or NIE along with the address — on this route that identifier belongs in the booking, not in a phone call after the parcel has stopped.
Textile swatches, components and small equipment samples from Bengaluru suppliers. We write the commercial invoice line by line with real quantities and values and record the consignee's tax number, so the shipment is classified instead of queried.
Whatever the consignment actually costs, quoted after we know where it is headed, what the box weighs set against what it measures — the bigger of those two is what we bill on — and what it holds. We deliberately publish nothing here, because an international figure printed in advance is a figure that changes at the counter.
